This is a "Ziegler" rug of new manufacture. In 1883 a Swiss man by the name of Ziegler founded an import company in Manchester, England and at the same time a rug manufactory in Sultanabad (today: Arak), Iran. In this manufactory they produced rugs of high quality in beautiful tone in tone pastel colors and allover designs inspired by Mahal and Farahan designs which were made mainly for the European taste. The success and the demand were huge and "Ziegler" became an international trademark and a guarantee for beautiful high quality rugs. Antique Ziegler rugs today reach record breaking auction prices especially in the USA. Since a number of years these antique Ziegler designs are being reproduced in Iran, Pakistan and Egypt with various grades of quality. In this case the rug is of very high and durable quality made in Pakistan and we offer it with pleasure.

This Oriental rug has received an "Antique Finish" wash. This wash includes not only the actual cleaning of the carpet but also its processing (ennobling) which represents an increase in the carpet's value. Carpet lovers often appreciate the "patina", the antique look which is reached by ageing, usage, and light exposure. Therefore this wash has been developed which actually accelerates this procedure and turns the colors of a rug, which often still feel and look "raw" after the carpet production, into softer and older looking colors. By this special technique a soft and silky feel is added to the Oriental carpet as well. This washing technique requires experience and skill since otherwise carpets could easily be damaged by it. In this case the washing was implemented perfectly.
